Does the Size of a Laptop Really Matter?
The question in computer portability has become, “Does size and weight really matter or is it more important to have an all powerful computer that allows you to fit all your productivity software and save as many data files as will fit on your computer?” Another issue may be whether the smaller dimensions are more worthwhile or if the light-weight portability is the key matter. I think the accessibility of different types of portable computers these days lets us really personalize our computers into something that works for everyone and doesn’t have to be standard for everyone.
The announcement of the cutting edge macbookair by Apple has really given us a choice with the size and what kind of laptop we carry around with us on our way to work. At less than 3 pounds and wafer thin, we don’t have to strain our shoulders every time we travel. It has a 13 inch LCD screen and a standard-size keyboard. Why wouldn’t I be interested? This is the very feature I have been seeking.
When I first witnessed the pitch for the MacBook Air with a slim, easy to transport laptop computer coming out of that envelope, I was just in awe. Now, that’s what I’ve been seeking for so long. Now it doesn’t have to be a major undertaking to take my portable computer with me anymore! No extra bag that can weigh almost as much as the computer, no more heavy lifting, no longer taking up so much extra room! What a phenomenon!
The frequently asked question of whether size is important is in front of us now and my answer, when it comes to a small laptop is a booming, “yes, Yes, YES!” Size does matter as well as weight. For me and my computer smaller is as good as it gets.
